Nurturing the Earth That Sustains Us

Nature, the first pillar, is not just where we gather, she is a living partner in our healing. Find your place in the story and help us bring this vision to life.

The Nature Pillar:

Stewardship, Ecology & Sacred Relationship

Open house at the east coast village

Nature is not simply where our work takes place, the land is a living partner in the work itself.

Our guiding question regarding nature is simple:
How do we live in ways that leave the land more alive because we were here?

Within many African Indigenous worldviews, nature is understood as a breathing presence. It is something to be listened to, cared for, and protected. It carries memory, spirit, and relationship. Truly, how we walk upon the earth shapes how we walk with one another.

At East Coast Village, we approach stewardship of nature not just as an environmental duty, but as a sacred practice. Together, we are learning how to move with nature's seasons and cycles; how to gather without taking more than we need; and how to weave deep relationships with the trees, waters, creatures of the wild, and living systems that sustain us all.

As our shared vision unfolds, this pillar guides our steps toward ecological restoration, regenerative land care, ancestral plant cultivation, and land-based education rooted in reciprocity rather than extraction.

Where Do You See Yourself in This Story?

"

Knowing that you love the earth changes you, activates you to defend and protect as well as enjoy. But when you feel that the earth loves you in return, that feeling transforms the relationship from a one-way street into a sacred bond.

The land gives our shared vision a body, a physical place for practice to take root. But it is our collective care that brings it to life. As you look at this landscape, where does your unique energy feel called to land?

Do you hear the call to protect? You could help us establish a land conservation trust, fund the legal protections needed to safeguard these acres forever, or join our seasonal boundary-walks to map and monitor the health of our regenerating trees.

Are you drawn to renewal and cultivation? You could get your hands in the soil to help plant an ancestral medicinal garden or sponsor the introduction of native pollinators. If you carry a passion for fungi, you can help us partner with the wild mushrooms already thriving on the land, whether by guiding sustainable foraging walks, helping us cultivate native gourmet and medicinal varieties, or designing logs and beds to expand our fungal community.

Do you long to build sustainably? You could lend your skills or resources to constructing a low-impact rain catchment system, help us source local timber for our ceremonial fire circles, or fund the solar setups that keep our gathering spaces off-grid and low-footprint.

Is your heart seeking to open sanctuaries for others? You could sponsor a community "nature-connection" weekend for urban youth, help clear and label accessible, contemplative forest trails, or use your words and research skills to help us find and apply for grants that bring indigenous elders, keepers of wisdom, and traditional healers to lead land-based workshops.
