HOW KONTOMBLÉ MEDICINE CAME TO THE WESt
Though they looked tiny and helpless, the Kontombili are the strongest, most intelligent beings God ever created. Grandfather told me they are part of what he called the universal consciousness, but even though they are immeasurably intelligent, like us they too do not know where God is. They come from a world called Kontonteg, a fine place, far bigger than our Earth, yet very difficult to locate in time and space. They make their homes in illusionary caves that serve as portals between our world and theirs.
The East Coast Village Land on Bly Hollow was procured mainly because Elder Malidoma felt the presence of the Kontombili on the the land (Kontomblé as we say in the West). And as such, the founding members came together to acquire this sacred, rustic, spiritually-charged property to further the Dagara teachings.
As a result of this initiative, a K-shrine was later constructed at what is now the Beer Diviner Brewery, and the first Kontomblé initiation was successfully performed in North America ! That paved the way for further initiations in the West, bringing Kontomblé medicine to the diaspora without the need to travel to Burkina Faso. Most recently, the original K-shrine was relocated to the ECV Land, allowing us to renew our connection and restore rituals supported by the Kontomblé.
By participating in this weekend intensive, you will be taking on the valuable work of supporting the healing and transcendence of humanity, guided by these helpful beings of nature.
ABOUT THE WEEKEND INTENSIVE
Friday: Purification & Preparation
We will begin on Friday evening with purification and preparation rituals. This is optional for those who previously participated in the connection weekend.
Saturday: Immersion & Celebration
Saturday will be spent in a series of immersive experiences. For existing K diviners, this will serve as a renewal and rededication. For new diviners, this will be a first step towards connecting with Kontomblé. And. of course, there will be time to celebrate!
Sunday: Integration & Divinations
We will close on Sunday with final rituals and a Diviner's Salon. The Divination Salon will invite the community to receive divinations, with the goal to build skill and confidence.
Faq - READ CAREFULLY
Participation is open to previously initiated K-diviners, those who have completed the cowry shell or stick divination. No drop-ins will be accepted. If you are new to the Kontomble experience and do not have K figurines, you are required to attend the entire weekend. Previous participants may attend Saturday only or Saturday and Sunday.
Bring your divination kit, your k-figures if you have them. K figures will be crafted for new diviners.
If you have not taken any divination courses at ECV or elsewhere, we suggest to first enroll in The Way of the Ancestors program which is a prerequisite for new participants.
