Food, music, song and dance afterwards
David Sprague, the first caretaker of the Gniur shrine when it was established in October 2004 by Dagara Elder and teacher, Malidoma Somé, will conduct a ritual with joy and excitement as he turns over the responsibility for the care, maintenance and medicine of Gniur to Aamirah. This is a momentous occasion for the East Coast Village. Elder David retired from active participation in the ECV in 2015. Since then, Gniur has been awaiting the arrival of a new caretaker. During this time Robert Walker, Tingan SOB, oversaw Gniur.
As far as is known, this Gniur shrine is the only one existing in North America.
The renewal of the Gniur shrine marks the renewal of the ECV as a place for ritual, healing and community, inspired by the legacy of Elder Malidoma, who always encouraged people to take what he was teaching and make it their own. He advocated integrating the Dagara cosmology and spiritual technology with your true essence, with the gifts and purpose you came with when you arrived here on Earth.
This is the core medicine of Gniur – to support, strengthen, enhance, and if necessary repair, the roots of who you truly are and the spiritual umbilical cord that binds you to the Ancestral world.
You are invited to this installation ceremony, to celebrate and deepen your understanding of the deep wisdom of Gnuir that will be renewed by Aamirah as gatekeeper. You will learn about the history of Gniur and the medicine work offered to all who are in need.
Enter Gniur with Aamirah to receive the blessings of Gniur and strengthen your roots.
Come celebrate with us!
